ISO 17025:2017 is compatible with, but not equivalent to ISO 9001:2008.ISO 17025 is a set of requirement which harmonizes the laboratory quality management system to all other laboratory processes. New requirements include continual improvement of the quality management system and improved communication with the customer. Although the standard was revised in 2005, the Technical Requirements were not altered.

Laboratory Accreditation provides formal recognition of competent laboratories, thus providing a ready means for customers to find reliable testing and calibration services in order to meet their demands.

Laboratory Accreditation enhances customer confidence in accepting testing / calibration reports issued by accredited laboratories.

The globalisation of Indian economy and the liberalisation policies initiated by the Government in reducing trade barriers and providing greater thrust to exports makes it imperative for Accredited Laboratories to be at international level of competence.

Why Laboratory accreditation?
With the globalization of commerce and the alleviating quality standards, a dire need was felt to have world class testing and calibration agencies. It is this sole purpose which has brought upfront the need for laboratory accreditation and National Accreditation.

The objective of initiating a Laboratory Accreditation process was to develop a framework for validating the competency of laboratories to perform specific testing and calibration activities.

The process is carried out by way of a third-party verification followed by a certification.

The certification recognizes the competence of the laboratory to perform the specific tests for which it accredited.

This helps the customers in accepting the results of testing and calibration with a greater degree of confidence and reliability..

The laboratories seeking accreditation are assessed in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
